Vitamin Angels is a global public health nonprofit focused on helping underserved populations – specifically pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five – gain access to life-changing nutrition solutions.

By working with governments and local organizations in 65 countries, Vitamin Angels ensures lifesaving interventions such as vitamin A supplementation, deworming, and multiple micronutrient supplements reach those who need them most. Through partnerships, advocacy, and systems strengthening, Vitamin Angels empowers communities and strengthens health systems to deliver sustainable impact, creating healthier futures for millions of women and children worldwide.

Our Work in India

Since 2010, Vitamin Angels has been working with pregnant women, infants, and children under five in India with essential nutrition interventions. Our approach combines two core strategies: testing innovative models through demonstration pilots and delivering proven nutrition solutions at scale. We support the bi-annual supplementation of vitamin A and Albendazole for children under five, in collaboration with NGO partners, hospitals, and state governments, to reach underserved regions and close coverage gaps. We also implement demonstration pilots on vitamin A supplementation (VAS) and anemia prevention, rooted in implementation science, to create solutions that can be scaled up and are embedded within national health programs. Through technical assistance, capacity building, and continuous learning, we ensure that interventions are effective, sustainable, and aligned with India’s health and nutrition policies.

  • We work with a network of 50 NGO partners and 8 state governments to strengthen health systems for improving the coverage and quality of vitamin A supplementation and deworming for children under five.
  • We align with national and state priorities to strengthen flagship health and nutrition programs like the National Vitamin A Supplementation Program, Anemia Mukt Bharat, and POSHAN Abhiyaan.
  • We focus on the first 2,000 days of life, a critical window that shapes a child’s lifelong health, development, and wellbeing.
  • Through initiatives like Project AMMA, Mission 9 By 5, and Micronutrient Grant Program, we combine and harness implementation science, systems thinking, and human-centered design approaches to design and implement solutions for critical public health nutrition challenges.

Message from the Country Director

At Vitamin Angels India, we believe that every mother and every child, regardless of where they live, deserves an equal chance at a healthy life. Our mission is simple yet bold: to improve nutrition and health outcomes of the most underserved, nutritionally vulnerable populations – pregnant women, infants, and young children. We do this by focusing on evidence-based, cost-effective interventions that target critical periods in a woman’s and child’s life.

In my role, I have seen firsthand the transformative power of these interventions. While a single dose of vitamin A and Albendazole can save a child’s life, a well-supported pregnancy can break the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. These small interventions create a massive impact, and together, we can scale them to build a healthier India – one where no mother or child is left behind.

Our work is grounded in evidence, driven by collaboration, and fueled by the belief that good health and nutrition are every woman’s and child’s right. Together, we are creating a future where no one is malnourished.
